Hello and Byenveni
Byenveni means Welcome in Haitian Creole! Byenveni Baby is a community center where families come together to learn and grow. Working within the principles of evidence-based childbirth education, group support and midwifery care I have created a unique set of options for birthing families.
The services I provide differ from traditional childbirth education and pregnancy care. These offerings reflect my many years of working with birthing people and families. I believe that families who receive quality childbirth education and have the support of a caring community will face the arrival of their new baby with confidence and agency.
Helping you welcome your little one with…
I have worked around birth for most of my life. I began my career as a Labor and Delivery nurse in a bustling, high-risk center in Hawaii. The work was exhilarating and gave me a strong foundation for birthing care. I fell in love with birth and developed a deep respect for what our bodies can do. However, I quickly realized that I wanted a more sustained connection with my clients, so I began the Nurse-Midwifery program at OHSU after 4 years of bedside nursing.
About Me
During my more than 25 years as a midwife I have worked both in private practice and as a part of a large hospital=based midwifery team. I’ve had the opportunity to volunteer with pregnant people in Rwanda, Haiti and the Dominican Republic. I’ve attended women with unmedicated births as well as those with very high-risk and technologically complex births. These experiences serve as a framework for the programs I have created.
My career has been incredibly fulfilling. It has been an honor to witness each unique pregnancy and birth, and I am grateful to those who have trusted me with their care. I’ve caught over 3,500 babies thus far and provided prenatal care to many, many more. Throughout my career, I have both guided families and learned from them. Midwifery is my life’s work, and I am eager to share my experience with you!
